It's so called random access memory. RAM is by itself a type of memory. Ram is a type of memory architecture that allows data to be stored temporarily as long as an electric current is supplied. As soon as power is lost, the content of the memory module is lost.
RAM (random access memory) is a type of removable storage. A hard drive, on the other hand, is stationary storage.
By "main memory" I assume you mean Primary Storage. This would be your RAM (Randon Access Memory)
