- Not boot up while the out of specification RAM was installed.
- Boot up, but only recognize the maximum ram the mother board specifies
If I was to purchase a computer that is a average desktop computer how much RAM and Rom should I have?
Most likely Yes. You can go to Crucial.com and select your computer make and model and it will tell you how much you can put in each slot.
to put RAM into your computer
Windows XP does not have the RAM, its the computer that has it. The amount of RAM can differ for each computer.

Depends on the computer. I'd have to say that a standard pc has anywhere from 2-4 gigabytes of RAM.
If your computer has 256mb ram only, you can add another 256mb ram in it..just go to your nearest computer store and buy another 256mb ram stick. once you have that, open you PC housing and put it in Dimm1 or Dimm 2.
