They are by definition a computer. They have storage, processing power, and the ability to run programs.

Due to the fact that computer related components have become more available and cheaper, it is allowing compaines to come out with more "interactive" toys. Even a child's stuffed animal can talk to them now thanks to smaller computers.

I think in a few generations of consoles and PMPs, you are going to lose the line between entertainment and personal computer. The iPhone and iPod touch are almost a full computer, and the Apple Tablet due out next year is supposed to combine the iMac and the iPod.

It is not hard to think that the next new computer is going to be the handheld system that you take home and plug into a dock for you keyboard/mouse and monitor, or into a dock for your TV and your controllers.

As for capabilities? I would say we are real close to gesture based interaction with both computers and gaming consoles. Xbox has one comping out the end of next year that will let you play almost all of your games by the actions you make in front of the TV. I think that you will see more of this just in everyday life.

Hope this answered your question.
