It sounds like you've 'toggled' the over-type function. If it happens again - press the 'Ins' key on your keyboard - that toggles between the (normal) insert mode and overtype mode.
Assuming you meant 'characters' - use the DEL key (instead of backspace). The DEL key erases the character at the cursor, moving the text from right to left. The Backspace key erases the character immediately to the LEFT of the cursor.
The delete key removes the character above or to the right of the cursor. The backspace removes the character to the left of the cursor.
Press the Delete key to remove a character on the right of the cursor.
delete
The delete button erases things in front of the cruser and the backspace button erases behind the cruser. ;) but next time do your own hw
Backspace deletes the characters to the left of the cursor while delete deletes the characters to the right. (The cursor is the vertical line that flashes on and off where you are typing text)
It's probably because the most common letters (AEST) are on the left, so the hand that is used less when typing is the right, so it makes sense to give the right hand the cursor keys.
It is a setting that can be turned on or off. To fix this go to: Start.....Control Panel.....Printers and Other Hardware....Mouse...Pointer Options(Tab on top).....In the visibility box you can toggle it there on (hide pointer while typing).
The Tab key will move from one cell to the next in Excel, or through different options in a dialog box if one is open. If you are typing when you hit the tab key it will enter what you have typed into that cell and move the cursor one cell to the right.
The arrow keys on the keyboard typically move the cursor left and right. Pressing the left arrow key moves the cursor left, while pressing the right arrow key moves the cursor right.
When you get your computer your cursor should be normal but if its not its not right. [Ej Chapman wrote this answer.]
