Unfortunately, you probably won't get back much money for an old laptop; like cars, they rapidly lose value. However, you can put it up for auction on a site such as ebay, and get something out of it. Remember to post plenty of pictures, make and model numbers, and specifications (amount of RAM, hard disk, motherboard, CPU, graphics card, etc...)

You can always put up a classified ad in your local paper or on a free online community classified site like Craigslist.

Also, depending on how old your computer is, you can check with Dell and see if your computer can be part of their program that buys back your old computer and gives you a substantial discount on a new computer.

Gazelle is a service that places a dollar value on your computer, and other electronics. You decide if you want to sell and they send you packaging to send it in. Once they get it and verify it's in the condition you stated, they send you money for it.

You can search for any local pawn shops and see how much you can get for your laptop there. Selling it online at Amazon or eBay is also an option, but it will probably not be as convenient as just selling it at a pawn shop.
