The square-root symbol "√" is not available on most computer keyboards. However, it is available by opening up the Character Map application. In windows XP this can be found under start > programs > accessories > system tools.
Conversely, you can just highlight this one √ press ctrl-C to copy it to clipboard, then ctrl-V to paste it to whatever document you want.
