A Dynamic Trunking Protocol switch in a dot matrix printer is used to change the parameters that the printer is operating under. These might be the baud rate of the printer, or the parity for data checking, or even the font size.
For payroll checks printed on carbon-backed forms, the correct technology is a dot-matrix (impact) printer. Unlike laser or inkjet printers, a dot-matrix device strikes the ribbon with force, allowing the print impression to pass through all layers of the carbon form. This makes it the most reliable and industry-standard choice for multi-copy checks. Brands like Ricoh (impact printer line) are commonly used in payroll environments where multi-part forms are still required.

Laser priniter and dot matrix printer
There are mainly two types of printers,1.impact printer2. non impact printerHere impact printer contains single type "Dot matrix printer".and Non impact printer contains two type. One of them is"Inkjet printer"and second one is "laser printer".1.Dot matrix printer:-Dot matrix printer are used in carbon copy printing. The number of metal pins in the print head determines the quality of output of the dot matrix printer.(30 to 550 characters per second)
Dot Matrix printer is the best option although we have some other alternatives. Dot matrix printer puts the pressure while in contact with paper, which is necessary in carbon printing. surendra pathak

That would be called a DOT-MATRIX printer. The oldest being the 9-pin dot matrix printers and the newer being the 24-pin dot matrix printers. However they are considered outdated except as receipt printers, or any kind of printing where multi-part forms are required.
"Depending on the amount of dots used in the picture, dot matrixes can be very clear. How ever, most people and businesses prefer to use injet printers, because images are not created by groups of dots, and can be printed on regular 8 1/2x11 paper."
YOu can use dot-matrix printer for carbone paper or a lazer printer with special label to cover the PIN such as PHS system from Otto Kunnecke
