XPS (XML Paper Specification) is a standardised open format similar to PDF (Portable Document Format).

An XPS document is like to an electronic sheet of paper: you can't change the content on a piece of paper after you print it, and you can't edit the contents of an XPS document after you save it in the XPS format. In this version of Windows, you can create an XPS document in any program you can print from, but you can only view, sign, and set permissions for XPS documents in the XPS Viewer.[Note: The format serves a similar function to Adobe's PDF (Portable Document Format).]
Directly, you can't. You will only be able to save a picture of the text. But if you are using Windows, you sometimes can! Click "print" while looking at the picture with text in it and select the printer that says XPS Document Writer or something similar to that. Then click "Ok" and it will save the picture as a XPS document. If the computer and recognize the letters, it will show in the document. Note: The computer doesn't always recognize the letters and words.

I don't know of an official printer file format. However, if you print to file, the data stream is saved as the .xps format. Perhaps this is what you are looking for.
