Linux by a country mile. It is far ahead of Microsoft in the number of embedded devices running some version of Linux.
Why? I'm not sure anyone can accurately answer this. I can propose possibilities though, such as:
1) Linux is Open Source, thus easily customized to your embedded device of choice.
2) Linux kernel source code costs you nothing but your time.
3) Linux is reliable.
4) Millions of people know how to use Linux.
5) Millions of people use Linux and have no idea they are even using it (eg Android phones, MeeGo devices etc.) so it is tried and true.
6) etc, so on and so forth ad infinitum...
Linux is an operating system which is free and has an open source unlike Microsoft Windows. An embedded Linux is a small independent program used within all sorts of appliances to control its operation and its functions.
Linux is a name for an operating system that was created by Linus Torvalds. It is an operating system in the since that you can run it like you would run Windows on a computer, but it is free. Linux is not an operating system in itself. Just like Windows is not an operating system in itself with Linux you have different distributions such as Linux Mint (which you should try) Just like you have Windows XP and Windows Vista Linux has different distributions. To a moderator of this site can you please move the question to the technology section. Thank You
No. An operating system is Linux, windows, osx. Also mcafee runs on the operating system called windows so no. Mcafee is not an operating system
Yes. Windows 7 is a system distribution in the Windows family built around Microsoft's proprietary NT operating system. Ubuntu is also one of many Linux distributions built around the open source Linux operating system.
Windows, Linux, Unix.
windows xp ,linux,vista
Windows, Linux, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, the list is huge!
There is no "the" operating system. There are LOTS of different ones available. Windows XP, Windows Vista Linux Mac OSX and much more... There is no "the" operating system. There are LOTS of different ones available. Windows XP, Windows Vista Linux Mac OSX and much more...
Linux is free. Windows and Mac OS X are not
Two operating systems are; Windows, and Linux.
An operating system is the system working on the computer. Linux and Windows are both operating systems used in businesses.
Yes, Linux is like an operating system much like Windows OS or Mac OS. Linux is kind of like a community of Operating Systems. A popular OS from Linux is Ubuntu.
