Ray Tomlinson invented the first internet based email. The first email program was invented in late 1971 for the ARPANET while Tomlinson worked for BBN.
It was invented by Ray Tomlinson(Raymond Samuel Tomlinson)in 1971. Also the world's first integrated email system was invented by Dr. V. A. Shiva Ayyadurai from MIT. He designed the first email system in 1980.
The earliest email systems were run on multiuser time-sharing mainframes; messages could be sent between users of the same mainframe. The earliest may well have been run at MIT in 1965 on the CTSS time-sharing system.
