Lloyd p. ray
Lloyd Ray was the first African American to receive a patent for improving the dustpan by attaching a short, wooden handle to a metal collection plate. He received the patent on August 3, 1897.
The dustpan was invented by an American man named T.E. McNeill in 1858.
Both "brush and dustpan" and "dustpan and brush" are correct phrases to describe these tools. The order can vary depending on personal preference, but they both refer to the same set of cleaning tools used to sweep up dirt and debris.

Broom, dustpan and brush, were the main tools used before the invention of the vacuum cleaner.
It was made in 1858, so it would've probably been made out of wood.
Actually, there is some question about whether he actually invented it; some historians believe the dustpan had already been invented. But it is beyond dispute that Ray improved it. He added a long handle, so that so people could use the device more easily: they would be able to clean, without getting their hands dirty.
