The 100 MB ZIP format drive was invented by and made by IOMega.

The drive cartridge used a flexible vinyl disk similar to an old style floppy disk, but encased in a plastic cartridge. The read/write heads 'flew' at a very small distance above the spinning vinyl disk, using air pressure to maintain separation between the head and the surface of the media. See "Bernoulli effect"

They have been out of production for many years.
