Who said they are bad? If you are insisting that there are a lot of viruses written for PCs that is because the writers of these viruses target PCs because they have the majority of users. If more people use Macs then you will see a large jump in viruses written for Macs.

PCs work just fine for most people. They are inexpensive, it is easy to find software for them without looking all over, and they support a wider variety of peripherals than either Mac or Linux -- regardless of what the Linux fans will tell you. They are also optimized for inexperienced users. If their software is kept up to date, they are just as safe as any other system.

Viruses, trojans and the like are acquired by unsafe behavior, just as STDs are acquired by unsafe sex. Surf smart and follow some simple rules, and you have nothing to worry about.

The reason PCs are popular is simple: Apple will not license its operating system to run on anything but a Mac, and Macs cost a lot more than comparable PCs. Microsoft, on the other hand, will license Windows to anyone -- even individuals building their own custom machines.

Linux is still not user-friendly enough to gain broad acceptance. (Yes, I know about Ubuntu. I have an XP machine that boots more varieties of Linux than most people have heard of.) Linux is still not user-friendly enough to gain broad acceptance.
