You don't technically get slots directly, you get a Backpack SDU as a reward which has to be 'used' to unlock additional slots.
AGP slots were used as a faster interface for a graphics card prior to the creation of PCI-E.
You plug bits of circuit board into slots to gain extra functionality.
PC Card slots originally used a 16-bit ISA bus
In telecommunication, a distributed-queue dual-bus network (DQDB) is a distributed multi-access network that (a) supports integrated communications using a dual bus and distributed queuing, (b) provides access to local or metropolitan area networks, and (c) supports connectionless data transfer, connection-oriented data transfer, and isochronous communications, such as voice communications. IEEE 802.6 is an example of a network providing DQDB access methods.
On a motherboard, a CPU socket is where the processors placed, while memory slots are used to insert RAM modules. Additionally, the chipset is an interface between the front side bus and main memory, the flash ROM is used for the system's BIOS, and expansion slots are used for additional cards that can be inserted into the motherboard.

PC slots are used to expand your computer ability's like if you want to add a wireless adaptor so u can use your computer where ever you go. hope this helped =]=]
These are slots (mostly in laptops) which lets you add features to your computer. I've seen network cards, modems, tv tuners, etc. be available for these slots. USB ports are making these slots used less and less.
PCI X stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect Extended. It is used for expansion of 32 bit PCI bus slots. The slots are used to enhance the capabilities of the motherboard.
It`s universal Serial Bus
