Mothers tend to kill deformed or wounded infants, which may allow her to allocate resources to the healthy pups who are more likely to survive. Mothers may also kill entire litters when they are stressed, perhaps because the mother perceives the environment as too hostile for pup survival, or she perceives herself as unable to rear the litter successfully, so she recuperates some her energetic investment by consuming the young. No, rats will eat almost anything. Just don't go over board with the unhealthy stuff, it'll shorten their lives. But rats do enjoy a bit of meat occasionally.

If Wild rats are a problem than poison baits or traps will make them go away. Pet Rats on the other hand can be trained with care and patience to do tricks. In the Hollywood films they have used trained Rats simply because trained rats do what the director of the film wants done
Rats are opportunistic scavengers; they will eat anything that does not move too fast or fight back too hard. some rats don't touch you but if you corner one then they will go to attack you.
