Why does computer become popular?

Personal computers are called that because they are owned by individuals. In the early days of computing, computers were very expensive, and so was computer usage. They were typically mainframe computers which occupied entire rooms. What users had at their desks were terminals which connected to the mainframe. While mainframes were intended for corporate use, personal computers were intended more for domestic/personal use. They still were very expensive, and it wasn't until the price wars and platform confusion of the early 80's that they were affordable for most families.

By the 90's, they were powerful enough for corporate and industrial use while still affordable for home use. Even operating systems became less different between versions intended for home, and versions intended for the corporate world. The Windows 9x versions (and ME) were for home users, and Windows NT and 2000 were for corporate users, but Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8 were intended for everyone. So even though "personal" computers are used in the place of mainframes, and they are even used as servers, the name "personal computer" remains.

Personal computer, PC is the most popular computer nowadays because of its simplicity and user friendly interface. Software is simple but very useful. PCs are designed for basic use or personal use. So individuals prefer pc.

The PC system was open to all manufacturers, to make software and hardware and not a patented system, closed to one manufacturer like Macintosh.

This allowed it to be mass manufactured and made cheaply and flexibly.

Despite many shortcomings over Macintosh's Apple, It overwhelmed the mass market and of course software designers would have a bigger market, sustaining the growth.
