Sounds like you may have a kernel conflict.
Try rebooting and immediately after the boot chime hold down the Shift key, keep holding it down until you get a grey Apple Logo stating your now in safe boot mode. It will do a repair in the background while it's booting up so it may take several seconds. Simply reboot to go back into regular boot mode.
If you have an older model dig out your MacOS installCD/DVD that came with the computer and boot to it and go into Disk Utility and "Repair Disk". Keep repairing it until no more errors come up.
If you have one of the newer computers that didn't come with a disk then boot into the "Repair Partition" and do the same.
If it comes out clean then you may just have an application software issue.
If Disk Utility says it can't fix the error then you may need to buy a disk repair software like "DiskWarrior" or "TechToolPro" to help out.
Worst case scenario if you don't have a back up then you can always do an "Archive and Install" to reinstall the Operating System with out erasing the important files.
To restart your macbook air either press the apple logo in the corner and select restart or you can press the power button in the right hand corner and select restart.
Click the Apple logo top left of the screen and then from the drop-down menu click Restart.
If the client is telling you to restart, then you must restart because it needs to update. There is no getting past it.
Press and hold down the Shift key after restarting the computer.
Nothing will happen, just restart the update.
1. Hold your power button down for 7 seconds(located on the top right of your keyboard) 2. A screen will appear saying "restart or shut down." 3. Select restart then you will have another screen appear saying "open last website/applications" 4. Select NO and then you should've rebooted your MacBook Pro!
You need to have the MacBook start in Recovery. Restart while holding down Command and the 'R' key until you see the Apple logo. After successfully booting into Recovery, you will be presented with options, including the one you need.
