Are you sure you have plugged it into the correct socket?
Muting the sound, should only happen when you plug into the headphone/speaker socket.
On a desk top computer, the microphone socket should have a pink ring around it. The green one is for the speakers.
Laptops rely on symbols printed on the case, which can wear off with use.
Some sound cards can detect when things have been plugged in. Open your control panel (in windows) for you sound card and look at the options for plug detection.
In order to record with Audacity, you have to either have a microphone plugged in to your computer or have a built-in mic. Once you have one of these, open up Audacity and press the button with the red circle in it to start recording. Press the stop button (the one with a black square) to stop recording.

Moshi Monsters are lively, they like to talk. You cannot stop your monster from talking. If you want to stop the sound then you'll need to mute the sound on your computer.

A computer does not need to have any input or output devices plugged into it at all in order to boot, as long as it is configured to not stop on missing devices; the most common "stop error" for missing devices is a keyboard, and this can typically be disabled.
Try going to Game Stop stores and see if they have an individual microphone available.
A mute is used to dampen the sound. Different mutes dampen different amounts but they do not stop the sound. Vibrato is used to vibrate the sounds
Bluetooth headset is the only way I've found to stop it.
To make Alexa go to sleep, you can say "Alexa, go to sleep," and it will enter a low-power mode. Alternatively, you can use the command "Alexa, turn off," or simply unplug the device. If you want to stop it from listening, you can also press the microphone button on the device to mute it.
A number of things. Is the audio cable plugged into the green jack tightly? Is the power pack plugged into the wall and into the speakers? Is the "volume" control on your computer muted or turned all the way down? Is the sound card working properly? Good luck.
If you're leaving your computer plugged in (but switched off) it's safer to leave the surge protector on ! The surge protector will stop any mains spikes reaching the computer - even when the computer is off (mains spikes are known to 'jump' internal connections).
