Why is it important to create a user friendly interface?

A graphical user interface is more user friendly than a command line interface because users do not need to remember commands. Graphical user interfaces also have the advantage of being easier to navigate, a file could be searched for in a guess and check manner as opposed to knowing the file structure.

We had a course book Software Engineering: A Practitioner's guide by Roger S. Pressman, it contains an entire chapter on GUI design principles and testing.

Don't expect it to be interesting, it is a really boring chapter but you can get some metrics about making your GUI user friendly.

The single largest determining factor in a new process's success is acceptance by the end user. If you are creating software for use by people who are not as computer literate as you are, they can and often will sabotage that software's acceptance, if it makes their life more difficult, or use of the software make them feel inadequate.

Make it simple, make it helpful, make it help the user, then teach the users, and it might be a success.

Simple! GUI is a Graphical user Interface, So see every things as a picture and click it to use/execute the Item. Rather then writing a Long Code for doing things... And Picture will tell you a lot then a Long Text...
