It would be one of the few moving parts in the machine, it is either a CD drive (unless there is no disc in), a hard drive (back up your data), or a fan off its axis (which is not too bad, just loud and not moving air as well).

No it shouldn't, and that seems odd that it would do that.
If you notice any error messages when you turn on your computer, that is one way to tell. You can also run a check on your computer or just listen to your computer for any odd noises. All of which are signs that will tell you that you might be need of hard drive repair.
it is mostly because you have had it on long and it is building up heat just let it cool down then if it still is making whirring noises take it in to be fixed or go to a electronics store and ask about it

It could be making "noises" because it could be "crying" in some way for some reason. If you are giving it a hug or stroking it then it could be making noises because it likes you stroking it and making a fuss of it. Or it could be growling or barking at you/somebody else for some reason.
