what you do is press ctrl + alt then while pressing those press shift 1 to how ever many you want. if htat doesnt work press shift more.

this happened to me on my dell mini laptop as well. it was fine the day before, and when i began typing the next morning all numbers showed up as symbols. i pressed the shift key once, then tried a number and the numbers all worked normally again. i did not hold shift, i just tapped it and then tried a number. all back to norma.
