Argument 1: Leaving the computer on.
Leaving the computer on keeps the temperature stable; the processor stays at the same temperature instead of heating up and cooling down, thus extending processor life. Additionally, leaving your computer on and turning on Windows updates and an automatic defrag will keep your computer up to date and running fast.
Argument 2: Turning the computer off.
Turning the computer off when you're not using it could extend hard drive life, because the drives are not spinning 24/7. Additionally, turning your computer off lessens the chance of transient power surges frying your computer in the event of an electrical storm.
My solution:
I leave my computer on, but it's on a battery backup so that if the power flickers my computer isn't effected. Meanwhile, the automatic updates will occasionally restart my computer so that the memory gets freed up and so forth. I can't remember the last time I turned off my computer (although I will turn it off if I'm leaving for vacation or something like that).
not likely and near impossible
The ENIAC was eventually shut down because more advanced, easier to use, and cheaper to operate computers became available.
none. none of these machines still operate. the last UNIVAC I was shut down in 1970. the ENIAC was shut down in late 1950s.
that how all computers are
A computers memory can be updated with an extra chip of ram or it can be shut down and restarted, or simply refreshed. They run cheap on certain websites.
Using the "start" button to shut down your computer gives your system a "heads up", if you will, that you are shutting it down. Shutting a computer down abruptly could be destructive to the system if you shut it down in the middle of an important process.
Computers do not "burn out." If they are treated normally (shut down properly, not overclocked, etc...) they can last indefinitely.
im sure some moron will go crazy about that 'end of the world' thing and attempt to shut don the internet, so im kind of expecting it.
You just shut down computer
recycle cut off lights when you leave shut computers down or put it on standby make sure that your faucets are shut off securely
To shut down WindowsXP computers from a Windows2003 Server use the "shutdown" command. The shutdown command can be run as part of a batch script, or interactively with "shutdown -i" A good starting point is http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/w2k3/shutdown.htm
Nickelodeon has not shut down.
