If engaging the overdrive and then after a few seconds it starts to flick on the dash board the likely problem will be that the overdrive is no longer working properly. Also, this could indicate a battery being dead.
It definitely sounds like a fuel problem, the first thing I would do is change the fuel filter .
The alternator is most likely the problem
same problem with our old marquis. catylatic (sp?) converter is plugged remove it
If you are saying the engine starts and runs for 15 seconds and dies and then starts again for another 15 seconds and dies . . . the distributor seems to be doing its job. You might want to check if there is a fuel restriction somewhere (filter or pump).
I had the same problem on a 1984 Mazda Rx7 and it turned out to be the PCM (power control module).
seconds
very hard to say but sounds like an immobilizer problem, or it is not getting adequate fuel flow...
Q.Your car starts then seconds later it shut off what wrong A. that must be some crappy car
Your 1991 4.3 S10 starts for about 3 seconds then shuts down because it is faulty. Take it to mechanic to have it checked.
Your motor is not getting fuel. Check that the shut off valve is on .Change fuel filter if that dose not solve problem get cab cleaned
I have the same problem when I first turn on the ignition there are no dash lights and it will start and die like yours. If I turn the switch on and off or just turn it on and wait, eventually I get dash lights and starts fine. There must be a relay or connection point causing this problem - anyone know where these are? Chuck Walp@juno.com
