When you are looking at hard drives, remember the two different types: internal and external hard drives. Internal need to be installed and are generally a little bit cheaper, at least if you do the installation. They also generally have a higher rate of data transfer. External are usually connected to your computer with a USB cord, which means they have a slightly slower transfer rate and will use up a USB port whenever you are using it. However, they are portable, so you can bring files to your friends homes, to another computer, or into the office.

In the Windows platforms, double-click on "My Computer", and from the window that opens, right-click on your hard drive icon (usually the "C" drive). Form the right-click menu, select "Properties". On that page, next to the word "Capacity" it will tell you the size of your hard drive.

You can access the hard drive from the bottom of the laptop. If you turn the laptop upside down, you'll find the hard drive door under the Toshiba sticker with the laptop serial number. Remove two screws from the hard drive cover and then remove the cover. Slide the hard drive to the right and remove it. Transfer the hard drive bracket to a new hard drive.

To identify the file system in use on a particular hard drive, right-click my computer and select EXPLORE. This will display the hard drives installed, along with a number of other options. Right-click the hard drive you are questioning and select PROPERTIES. The file system is shown under the General tab.
A hard drive does not have a compatible video card. They don't interact.
