I had this problem with a 95 C1500, and it turned out to be a battery cable. As I recall, there are two cables on the positive terminal - one for the starter and one for everything else. The fitting at the end of the everything-else cable is supposed to conduct current to the starter cable that sits on top of it, but it gets corroded internally so that it won't handle starting current, even though everything looks good if you check with a voltmeter. The old-school auto-electric guy who fixed it for me replaced that cable end with a simple lug and installed a special adapter bolt to get both cables connected.
The starter or battery cables/terminals are corrode.
When the battery does not have enough voltage to turn the starter over it will sometimes make a clicking noise.
dead battery or bad starter (with the clicking, I'm 95% sure its the battery)
If it is a single click, the problem is either a loose battery cable or a faulty starter relay/solenoid. If the symptom is rapid clicking, the battery is probaly low.
My past experience has been that a "clicking noise" meant that the battery was too discharged to power the starter solenoid much less run the starter motor. You might try charging the battery.
If the Chrysler is only making a clicking noise and will not start, check the starter. Also check the alternator, and the battery. The starter solenoid is more than likely the reason the car is clicking and not starting.
You either have a corroded or loose battery cable connection at the battery, a defective or drained battery, defective starter relay or starter.
A clicking noise when you hit the starter button typically indicates that the starter motor is not engaging properly. This could be due to a weak or dead battery, poor battery connections, or a faulty starter relay. It's also possible that the starter motor itself is malfunctioning. To diagnose the issue, check the battery voltage, inspect the connections, and consider testing or replacing the starter if necessary.
Probably it's a low battery, though it could be a bad starter. You are probably hearing the starter solenoid clicking.
clicking noise when trying to sart engine usually indicates a flat battery.if the battery is not the problem ,the starter motor needs repair.
Several possibilities: 1) battery does not have enough voltage to turn the starter; 2) faulty starter motor; bad battery connection.
Does the engine turn over and then make the clicking noise while trying to start, or does it not do anything but make the clicking noise when you turn the key. If its not turning over at all then it might be a battery problem, Try cleaning the battery terminals, and/or charge the battery, Could also be the starter solenoid, but start with the battery first.
