Anything which generates heat, and is allowed to accumulate dust, and is left on for long periods fo time, can catch fire. Electrical applicances should always be clean and free from anything which might ignite - such as oil or grease. They should always be operated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions which came with them. In the event that these instructions are no longer available, appliances should not be operated for extended periods of time (unless designed to function like that), shoudl not be allowed to function unattended (again, unless designed that way), and should be operated away from accumulated waste (paper, rags, sawdust, etc.) or other flammable material.
