If you're wondering if you can rip out the drive and attach a cable, you can't. Just go BUY an extern CD/DVD drive, they're only about $50.
CORRECTION! I just learned that if you have the DVD drive already out and lying around, you can buy this case-thing at Amazon.com for around 8 bucks where you put in the DVD drive then it can hook up to your computer!
External. Internal devices would be something like a CD Drive, while an external device is a keyboard or mouse for example.
An Internal CD or DVD drive is a drive that is built in with the computer. As you can imagine a External CD or DVD drive is one that is not built into the computer and is plugged into one of the on board ports.
An external drive will be a little slower because of the speed differences between SATA (internal) and USB (external). The obvious advantage to an external is changeability, ease of access, etc.

internal
A CD, DVD or Blu-ray drive (optical drive) that is installed in the computer. The alternative is an external drive, which is a separate box you connect to the computer using a USB cable.
Maybe somthing is wrong with the internal drive. Try an external one.
Not if it's a internal CD or DVD drive. If it is a external CD or DVD drive they usually connected via USB port or Fire-wire.
No. Only difference between an external and an internal drive is well, one's on the outside and the other is on the inside. That's about it. the mechanics of CD burners are the same regardless of location.
Neither. Is Your hard drive input or output? Neither. It is simply a storage device as a flash drive or internal optical drive would be.
A CD/DVD is an internal device however some varying forms can be both
1) A hard drive 2) A memory card reader 3) A floppy drive 4) A CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive
