If you are referring to a CD drive or a DVD drive, the preferred method is to use a paperclip. I typically use the large paperclip, straighten it out. In the front of the drive look closely for a tiny pin hole. Push the paperclip into the hole and the drive will open.
Do you mean you want to eject CD/DVD Drive? If you can't remove or eject it by push "arrow" button, just go to Disk Utility which plug-in Mac, then find the CD/DVD Drive name, choose it then click Eject button to remove it. And if you're using Windows, simply go to My Computer and locate your CD/DVD drive, right click on it and select on Eject from the shortcut menu.

Very much depends on the capabilities of the drive. Most drives will tell you in the manual. Or you can look up the drive on the manufacturer's website and check there. Some drives will have a DVD+/-DL on the front, if it says "DL" it can handle dual layers.
Newer DVD drives can read and write both DVD-R and DVD+R discs. An older one may or may not be able to. so you should double-check the drive. Usually a drive will display what is supports on the front of its tray.
