The tv remote was invented back in 1950.It was something called "lazy bones" which was a wired remote, it had just a channel button and power button. The flashmatic was the first wireless remote which was a flashlight tv remote control, had 1 button for the light pointing at a controller switch on the tv,and 1 to get the remote turned on.Using a tv remote before 1980 was a set-top remote capable with any control the tv would detect even though it wasn't a universal remote.TV remotes during the '80s were either wired to the tv or ir since those both were the standards.Wireless stopped becoming a standard since it represented mid 50s- late '50s household usage, and ir became better for tv remotes than a wireless tv remote control
