Check your dog's mouth for chemical burns- red irritation, blackish around the red parts...swollen, lots of drool...I had a rottie do this yesterday, signs of chemical burns - lots of saliva production. She had burns on only one side of mouth- gums, and lower jowl area (where canine tooth comes down.) Pepcid A/C is prescribed to help neutralize the acid (if they ingested any.) I could not see any tongue burns so I don't think she ingested any-thank GOD! I put baking soda on the burns, and kept the area clean by wiping it w/ baking soda every 3-4 hours until she went to bed. She licked all night, produced a lot of saliva, but the irritated areas are much better today. Also, I gave her a small amount of milk last night (1/2 cup- to help neutralize any residual acid.)
She is still very slobbery, but burns are gone:)
