In BOF the steel making is done by blowing oxygen through a lance and in EAF it is done by producing an arc from the electrodes. A Con-arc furnace makes use of both the technologies i.e both the oxygen blowing and electrode arc method.

The input for BOF is Hot metal whereas the input for EAF is scrap. but the input for Con-arc furnace is 50% Hot metal and 50% Scrap.

How much EAFElectric arc furnace dust generated per year in India?

There are 183 EAF in India of which 36 re greater than 25 ton capacity. The EAF dust generated is from 10 to 18 kg per metric ton of steel produced. I will appreciate if you can let me know how much EAF dust is produces in the EAF plant you operate.

How do you calculate refractory wear index in electric arc furnace?

The refractory wear index in an electric arc furnace (EAF) is calculated by measuring the thickness loss of the refractory lining over a specific time period. This involves taking initial and final measurements of the refractory lining's thickness and calculating the difference. The wear index can also be expressed as a ratio of the volume of refractory material lost to the total volume of the refractory lining, often normalized by the duration of the operation. This index helps in assessing the performance and longevity of the refractory materials used in the EAF.

What is gantry mechanism in electric arc furnace?

A gantry mechanism in an electric arc furnace is a movable structure that supports and moves the electrode arms over the furnace. It is responsible for controlling the positioning of the electrodes during the melting process, allowing for precise control over the arc length and power input to the furnace. This mechanism enables efficient melting of metal scrap and ensures uniform heating of the materials in the furnace.

What is a steel mill?

What is a non-Integrated steel mill?

Electric arc furnace how is it charged?

There are several ways of charging the Electric Arc Furnace(EAF). 1. 100% Scrap Charging by opening the furnace roof and introducing scrap bucket into the furnace shell. In this process 2-3 charges are taken for reaching the designed capability of furnace. This results heat loss when roof is opened. 2. In latest process DRI/Sponge Iron is fed from roof hopper, continuously, into the molten metal pool. 3. In another process, hot metal(from blast furnace) is introduced from slag door or roof top. This is the most effective method for reducing Tap To Tap Time(TTTT).

What is the formula of electrode tip in electric arc furnace?

The electrode tip in an electric arc furnace (EAF) is typically made of graphite or a composite material. The composition can vary, but a common formula for graphite is C (carbon), often in conjunction with other additives to enhance properties like conductivity and wear resistance. The exact formulation may depend on specific operational requirements and the type of materials being melted.

How do you do charge calculation in electric arc furnace?

Charge calculation in an electric arc furnace (EAF) involves determining the appropriate amount and composition of raw materials needed to produce molten steel. This includes calculating the weights of scrap metal, fluxes, and additives based on the desired chemical composition of the final product. Factors such as the efficiency of the furnace, energy consumption, and the specific properties of the materials being used are also considered. By optimizing these variables, operators can enhance the quality of steel produced while minimizing costs and waste.
