To change the positive battery cable on a 1988 Jeep Cherokee trace the end of the cable to the starter. Unplug the battery then remove the cable from the starter. Measure the old positive cable with the new and be sure to replace the unit at the right size.
Start with checking main fuses usually near battery. may also be on battery + cable. Computer is probably fine. Fuses are there to protect this component.

On the back side towards the transmission. There will be a large batter cable going up to the starter relay or battery positive connector. On the lower back side of the engine at the transmission. There will be a large battery type cable going up towards the starter relay or battery. " Look fer it"
It is bolted to the side of the engine compartment immediately below the hood. It will be on the same side as your battery. Just trace the positive (red) cable from the battery directly to the solenoid.

disconnect both cables from the battery and remove the battery hold down bracket, remove battery, put new one in replace the bracket, connect positive (red cable [end will have plastic cover with red plus sign on it]} first than the other (negative) one. your done.
