I tried once, it sticks together if you cook it in the proper way and make nice sushi rolls but the texture and taste is not the same, and of course you can only make the traditional (nori rice) roll. Try to use Arborio rice, they say it works fine for sushi or try any other short grain rice you can find, but Japonica is the best.
Good luck!
Long grain, short grain & short grain.
Short-grain rice is typically plump and sticky when cooked, making it ideal for dishes like sushi. It has a higher starch content, giving it a chewy texture. Long-grain rice, on the other hand, is slender and fluffy when cooked, with a lower starch content, resulting in a lighter texture. In terms of taste, short-grain rice tends to be more flavorful and absorbent, while long-grain rice is known for its subtle nutty flavor.
If you intend to follow a recipe using long grain rice in the place of Minute Rice, you should cook the long grain rice first. If you don't, the rice will be under-cooked.
No. The AI pair has the long A (ay) vowel sound, as in gray and pain.
There is a long U (long OO) vowel sound for the second U (toot). The sounds are short U, short I, long U, silent E.
The two main starches in rice are amylose and amylopectin. The grains tend to hold on the their amylose but amylopectin can leave the grain and move into the liquid being used for cooking. Long-grain rice has a lot of amylose and not much amylopectin. Short-grain rice has a good balance of both. So long grain rice will be lighter and fluffy because the grains will not get too sticky. Short grain rice will pour starch into the water it cooks in creating a sticky coating on all the grains which, if properly treated, can be made into an amazing, creamy sauce. Long-grain rices are great for dishes where rice is a base for something or playing second-fiddle to something else. Short-grain rice is superb for dishes where the rice is going to be the star, like a risotto.
According to Producer's Rice Mills, there are over 29,000 grains in a pound of long grain white rice. You'd have slightly fewer for long grain brown, as each grain retains its bran layer. Short grain rice is 3-4 times shorter, so you'd have 3-4 times as many in a pound.
