Double boiler on top of glass cook top with no water added to lower pan Lower pan stuck to glass top After removed the glass top cracked What went wrong?

you needed water in bottom pan . A empty pan placed on heat can catch fire. The reason the pan stuck to the glass is, the metal pan if left long enough would have melted and turned red hot, on cooling again it stuck to the glass. The idea of a double boiler is to put water in bottom pan and whatever is to be cooked in top pan.
