Yep. Pretty much. My rule is to fill up the rice cooker with rice, then add enough water to cover the first joint of your index finger. My SO thinks that produces rice that's too dry. YMMV.

Who invents the rice cooker?

The idea of having a rice cooker began in 1920 but they were not very effective. They had to be monitored constantly. In 1956, Toshiba came up with an effective rice cooker. It was easy to use and did not require constant monitoring. Today's rice cookers are great as we simply push the cook button and let it do its thing. Many rice products require the same cooking instructions but it is always valuable to read the directions for each product you put in the rice cooker. Here is a good recipe for cooking rice pasta in the rice cooker.2 1/2 cups of warm water1 tbsp. of olive oil in the cooker.1 cup of rice pasta in the cookerPlace the warm water and olive oil in the cooker. It is recommended to use a type of oil when cooking pasta. Butter, cooking oil or any other type of oil would be okay. The idea is to have some kind of oil substance so the pasta will not stick together. Add the pasta and stir in the warm water. Turn on the rice cooker. Pasta may require more water to complete cooking, if this is the case then add more water and start the cooking cycle one more time. Drain pasta when it is finished, drain and serve. After the pasta is finished cooking remove all the pasta and unplug the cooker. After the cooker has cooled remove the inner pot and submerge in some hot soapy water. Do not submerge the exterior of the cooker in water. Take a damp cloth and wipe down the lid and the surface of the cooker. Do not spray cleaner directly on the external part of the cooker. Cleaners contain poisons and they may get inside the cooker. If there is any rice or food on the cookers hot plate remove this by using a light sandpaper material. Do not use scouring powder or an abrasive sponge as a cleaner for the cooker. Be gentle when using these as you do not want to cause scratches on the hot plate.Remember these tips for the rice cookers: clean the cooker after each use, do not submerge the external cooker in water, do not use spray cleaners on the external cooker, and do not use abrasive cleaners. If the rice cooker is cleaned after each use there should not be a problem or use for abrasive cleaners.

How do you cook parboiled rice in a rice cooker?

I have found several different recipes for this. One is to use the 2 cup per 1 cup ratio. This is the popular one. Another one is that your boil 1 cup of rice in 6 or 8 cups of water for 15 minutes. Drain and add back into the saucepan at 1 ¼ to 1 ½ cups water, bring to a boil, turn down to simmer for 20 minutes. Take the saucepan off the burner and let the rice cool for 5 minutes. Fluff and serve. Some rice cookers offer several settings: white/mixed, sushi, porridge, sweet, brown, rinse-free and quick cooking. Check your rice cooker for the correct settings for the rice. You can use several different types of rice in the place of white rice for the recipe: Using the rice cooker is always an easy way to go because with the rice cookers you have recipe booklets that come with it and there are also several good rice cooker cookbooks available.

What is the ratio of water to rice for arborio rice in a rice cooker?

The ratio of water to rice is simple if you use a mug (a normal size one at that). First, fill the mug with water and place in a frying pan. Boil. Once boiling, fill the mug with 3/4 of rice and place with the boiling water in the pan. Turn the heat down to 2 or 3 on the dial. Wait 8-10 minutes or until the water has completely evaporated into the rice and it is ready to serve.

To speed up the cooking of the beef in the slow cooker can I turn it onto high?

Yes, but it might not be as tender as cooking it on low for a longer period of time. Just be sure to keep enough water/broth in the slow cooker to make sure your roast doesn't dry out too much.

How to keep rice from getting mushi?

If your rice is getting mushy then you are using too much water to cook with. When I make rice, I rinse my rice with hot water first and then add just enough water to cover my hand when pressed on the top of the rice while in the pot. Adding about 2 tablespoons of oil will keep it from sticking to the pot. Use a heavy pot and add a little salt. Once your rice has come to a boil, turn it down to finish cooking and stir occasionally.
