My opinion is that if it isn't an appealing colour (dark brown for example) someone may go for the more appealing color (a golden brown). Also a colour could represent a flavour and someone may prefer a certain flavour or not like one. A colour could also show how the food could taste (eg. the redder a piece of meat is the more rare it is). Though these are only my opinions not fact.
