Silver is extracted through a process called electrolysis from the hypo fixer solution, which contains silver ions. The solution is electrolyzed using a cathode, which attracts the positively charged silver ions, causing them to plate onto the cathode surface, thus extracting the silver from the solution. This process is used to recover silver from spent fixer solutions in photographic processing.
The percentage of silver used in fixer solution is over 99%.................
Silver is not extracted from uranium ores.
You must use fixer. If you don't, the undeveloped silver halide will remain in the film, and you won't be able to get light through it--hence the negatives will be useless.
In certain reaction conditions, yes. Copper is more reactive than silver, so it should react with the nitrate molecule to form copper nitrate while precipitating the silver. *Are you thinking about separating silver from photographic fixer? Commonly a less expensive metal is used like iron (steel wool) to extract much of the silver.
No, plus that would be illegal.
fixer
There are two ways. One is ion replacement--you get three pounds of steel wool and put it in a gallon of used fix. Fixer would rather complex to iron than to silver. The steel wool will dissolve, leaving a black sludge of silver at the bottom of the container. The other is electroplating. There is a stainless steel electrode in the machine. You put in the used fix and turn the machine on. Eventually, a layer of silver will coat the stainless steel. You run the machine for about a year, then recover the silver by flexing the electrode.if you want know the exact method for the silver extraction from waste photographic solutions and X-ray wastes by chemical precipitation, please contact silverenquiry@gmail.com. Silver can be extracted from Argentite, which is a silver sulfide mineral. The process involves smelting the Argentite ore to extract the silver metal.
In Fixer you can find Sodium thiosulfate :Na2S2O3·5H2O and Ammonium thiosulfate: (NH4)2S2O3 for black and white photography, in purpose to remove unexposed silver halide. They can not be found in developer ! In Developer for black and white photography: Metol,Phenidone and Hidroquinone for purpose chemical that makes the latent image on the film or print visible!
Silver plated? Not worth your time to extract. Plating puts such a small coating of silver on the object that the costs to extract it are more than any gains from the silver you are extracting.
