Well, you have 450 guests, so you will need 450 appetizers. Most guests however will eat more than one, so a safe bet is to triple the number of guests, in this case 1,350. It depends on how you are serving however. If this is a sit-down meal with service, go back to one per guest. If this is more of a cocktail party venue, look more at that larger number, and perhaps as many as 2,000.

Try three different types of each; appetizers, entrees, sides, breads, desserts, and beverages. Make sure that with the main dishes and sides, you could serve a full plate of two entrees and three sides and still be enough for 200. Appetizers should always be something easy to put together on their own, like a salad and a fruit bar. You should all ways have three or four different dressings, four different salad toppings not including tomatoes, veggies and shredded carrots, and maybe even a couple of dipping sauces for the fruit such as chocolate of whipped cream or even a strawberry shortcake topping. Fruit is not dessert! Never think you have too much drinks! Stock up on sodas and ice! Worst case is when the host undercounts and doesn't leave room for uninvites or extras. Always expect more than counted. Make the main dishes simple though, don't overwork yourself.
