The dutch oven mine is a type of gold pioneer myth. Back in the 1800"s, a man name tom schofield was hiking in the clipper mountain range mines in CA just North west of the town called Essex near amboy. The clipper mountains are just south though of the i-40. Tom schofield was doing some exploring when he came across a stone house. It was abandoned, so he kept hiking along a trail for about 9 miles when he came across what he described was a massive boulder split in two with the trail going through it. Pass this he came across what he described as a old spanish mining camp with old pots and pans. He looked around and found some rich crystal gold. As he was packing up to leave he tripped over a old dutch oven and out spilled huge gold nuggets! Tom grabbed as much as he could when the bag was to heavy. He took what he could and left. After he was flat broke he decided to come back to the camp, but after years of trying he never found it again. To this day people search for it.
