Edible gel is a term used for any gel that can safely be eaten. Such gels are used in many recipes such as fruit jellies, fruit salads, and cake frostings.
Silica gel is not edible because it is hard and tough. It also has other chemicals added to it that should not be eaten. The silica gel itself is not toxic.
Agar is a colloid, and possibly carageen. Both are used to 'gel' food items.
No hair gel, like lots of manufactured products, have chemicals in them. It would be harmful to ingest these chemicals and you would end up get sick if you did. It would also taste disgusting no matter how nice it smelt.

Commercial Nuru gel is NOT due to the chemical components used in it's formulation. I have used a chemical nuru gel, I found it drying and personally I would not even want it on my skin again.
You can but you might not want to eat it afterwards. You can always buy edible food coloring markers at the store or online. You could look at Michels at Wilton cake decorating supplies and Edwards Cake and Candy Store is bound to have some. Good Luck!

Aloe gel is not edible as such but it is prescribed in Ayurveda to eat as a medicine
