Over the range is still a microwave and there is nothing special about it other than it being over the range. Older microwaves need to be discarded because of radiation concerns. If the microwave loses power and/or doesn't work anymore the best thing to do is to find a replacement. By the time you put all of the money and effort into getting the old one fixed you will probably save money by finding a new used one or purchasing a brand new one.
