There is no way to know for sure if dinnerware is safe unless you can have it professionally tested by a government agency. At home kits have been proven to be completely unreliable.

Dinnerware can contain lead without knowledge of the manufacturer. For example, glass plates are made from sand, which can contain natural lead, thus contaminating the finished product. Plastics leach dangerous chemicals, ceramics do too. Wood plates leach small amounts of formaldehyde (found naturally in wood, but harmful neverless). Paper and styromfoam are also terrible because of the numerous harmful chemicals used to glue the particles together that can and do leach out into food on contact. The cavemen probably had it safest when using large leaves to eat from or simply cupping their hands together.

Good luck, I decided on a glass dinnerware made in USA... you pick one of your choice as your best guess is as good as anyone elses, but do stick to USA as they have much higher regulations and oversight in manufacturing.
