Dr. Irvine W. Grote was an American scholar and scientist who was head of the Chemistry Department of The University of Tennessee and The Chattanooga Medicine Company. In 1935, Grote invented an analgesic balm called "Soltice" which paved the way for later pharmaceutical inventions such as Icy Hot by that same company.
