It may have something to do with the dishwashing powder or liquid used in the dishwasher.
Since my first question in December on why aluminum turned black in the dishwasher, I have done further research. I was using Cascade which I have used for years. I switched to Finish which is made by the same company that makes Jet Dry. I then washed a different aluminum pan in the dishwasher and it was fine.
I recently ADDED JetDry to my dishwasher--dispenser was empty for a long while. THREE aluminum pans turned black with Cascase tablets and JetDry. It's disgusting! Anyone have answers?
To wire a dishwasher properly, first turn off the power to the circuit. Connect the black wire to the black wire, the white wire to the white wire, and the green or bare wire to the ground screw. Secure the connections with wire nuts and cover them with electrical tape. Finally, turn the power back on and test the dishwasher to ensure it is working correctly.
Yes, aluminum can turn dark or black when exposed to caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) due to the formation of aluminum oxide on its surface. This darkened appearance is a result of the chemical reaction between the caustic soda and the aluminum.

Lemon zest can turn blue due to a reaction between the natural compounds in the lemon and certain metals, particularly aluminum. When lemon zest comes into contact with aluminum, especially when heated or in acidic conditions, it can cause a chemical reaction that produces a blue pigment. This phenomenon is often seen in culinary applications, such as when zest is added to aluminum cookware. It's a harmless reaction, but it can affect the appearance of the dish.
