Francisco Pizarro was sailing from Spain, specifically from the port of Seville, when he embarked on his expeditions to the New World. I wouldn't say he was interested in sailing, I would say he was interested in where he was sailing to, and what he's going to get when he finds what he was looking for. He really wanted the money he was promised if he would find a faster trading route to the Indies. He was also promised the spreading of Christianity.
