There are several ways to empty a coal bulker or any Bulk Carrier.
The most elegant is the self unloader, it has (efectively) a hatch on the bottom of each compartment and when the hatch is opened a belt underneath carries the product, coal in the example, out of the ship onto the reciving system.
The next way is by special excavator, Just like an earth mover but specially designed to work on Bulk ships, it digs the coal out.
coal ship
It was used to carry bulk coal. This style of ship apparently had a shallow draft, and James Cook's early sea experience of these led him to use them for his explorations, on account of their utility in shallow waters or streams.
The bulk density of coking coal typically ranges from 0.8 to 1.5 grams per cubic centimeter, depending on the coal's composition and particle size. This parameter is important for determining the handling and storage requirements of the coal, as it affects transportation costs and storage capacity. Testing is usually done using standard procedures to accurately measure the bulk density.
