During his search for the mythical Seven Cities of Gold, Francisco Coronado embarked on his expedition in 1540 with a fleet that included a total of 1,500 men and various types of ships. He initially set out from the Mexican coast with several vessels, including two ships that he had at his disposal. However, after reaching the land, he abandoned the ships and continued his journey overland into present-day southwestern United States, as he sought the fabled riches.
