St.Maarten and Netherlands Antilles
"Nederlandse Antillen" is the Dutch name for the former Netherlands Antilles, a group of islands in the Caribbean that were part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands until their dissolution in 2010. The islands included in the Netherlands Antilles were Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten.
Until 2010, it used to be the town of Willemstad on the island of Curaçao. Then the Antilles were dissolved. Today Curaçao, St Martin and Aruba are each autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The other islands choose to become Dutch municipalities, giving them much less independence, but much greater and enduring financial support.
St.Maarten and Netherlands Antilles
Curaçao gained autonomy within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on October 10, 2010. This change was part of a broader restructuring of the Dutch Caribbean, transitioning from its status as a part of the Netherlands Antilles. While Curaçao is self-governing, it remains part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, meaning it does not have full independence.
