The Mayflower was initially part of a larger group of ships known as the "Pilgrim fleet," which included the Speedwell. However, the Speedwell encountered significant leaks and was deemed unseaworthy, forcing the passengers to transfer to the Mayflower. Ultimately, the Mayflower set sail alone from Plymouth, England, in September 1620, carrying the Pilgrims to the New World. No other ships accompanied it on that voyage.
First were sailing ships, THEN steam ships.

No. Other ships were here before the Mayflower. The Mayflower came in 1620. Prior to that there were a number of other Explorers including Hudson and Cabot that explored the continent.

The mayflower
The Mayflower was the primary ship that carried the Pilgrims from England to the New World in 1620. While there were no "three ships of the Mayflower," it is often mentioned alongside two other ships, the Speedwell and the Mayflower's sister ship, the Fortune. The Speedwell initially set sail with the Mayflower but had to turn back due to leaks, leaving the Mayflower to continue the journey alone. The Fortune arrived later in 1621, carrying additional settlers to Plymouth Colony.

The Mayflower was not specifically designed for a certain kind of cargo, nor were any other sailing ships of the period. She was a general freighter, and is on record as having carried herrings and wine on several voyages. But no doubt she carried other cargo as well before taking the Pilgrims on board: she had been in service for at least 10 years when that voyage was made.
