Calypso, a nymph, fell in love with him and kept him there for several years, offering him immortality if he stayed. Despite her offers, Odysseus yearned to return to his wife, Penelope, and his home, illustrating his desire for loyalty and the human experience over eternal life. Ultimately, the gods intervened, compelling Calypso to let him go.
